Safe & Active Genesee Accomplishments

In 2008, SAGE led the Bicycle Friendly Communities assessment through the League of American Bicyclists. Flint received an honorable mention and feedback on how to make the community more bicycle-friendly.

SAGE developed the first bike route map for Flint to identify safe, accessible bike routes. The map also includes information on benefits of biking and guidance on how to safely bike.
SAGE has been integral in catalyzing the involvement of Williams, Washington, and Durant Turri-Mott Elementary Schools in the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program, a program that strives to make it safe, convenient and fun for children to walk and bike to school.
SAGE initiated Smart Commute in 2007. This annual spring event encourages and supports the use of alternative modes of transportation.
SAGE has been supportive in advocating for complete streets policy language to be adopted into the Genesee County Long Range Transportation Plan.
